Connection over Perfection: Family Portraits in Alexandria, VA

Documenting Your Family Legacy Across the DMV

The Family Session: Celebrating Your Spirit
These sessions are built on the belief of connection over perfection. My goal is to focus on the love, joy, and connection that makes your family unique, and I find that the most authentic stories often unfold in the places you feel most comfortable. While we can capture a few classic portraits of everyone smiling at the camera, our primary focus is the unscripted magic—the laughter in your backyard, the snuggles on your front porch, and the closeness that happens naturally in your own space. I want every member of your family to feel seen and empowered while we create lifestyle portraits that celebrate your family's spirit and legacy.

Newborn sessions: Documenting the Beginning
Newborn sessions are unhurried, deeply connected, and held in the comfort of your own home. We prioritize a supportive pace that allows for the tiny details and the new bond between you and your baby with time for feedings and diaper changes built in. Big siblings and grandparents are always welcome to join this 'First Chapter' of your family's legacy as we serve families throughout Northern Virginia and Southern Maryland.

Family Session Experience

The Planning Session
After you reach out, we’ll hop on a quick call to make sure we’re a perfect match for your family. Once you're officially on the calendar, we’ll host a Face-to-Face Zoom Consultation two weeks before your session. This is where we get into the fun stuff—curating your wardrobe, picking the perfect location, and obsessing over the small details that make your family unique.

The Portrait Session
This is where the magic happens—and I promise, it won’t feel like work. Our sessions are designed to be relaxed, playful, and centered on connection rather than perfection. Whether we are in the quiet of your home with a newborn or a family session at your favorite park, we move at your pace. There is zero requirement to "perform" or act for the camera. I’ll provide the gentle direction and guided movement to keep things flowing, leaving you the space to just be with your favorite people while I capture your family's love, joy, and connection.

The Big Reveal
About two weeks after your session, we’ll meet for your Image Reveal and Design Appointment. Whether we meet in your home to measure your walls in person or connect via Zoom, this is when you’ll see your images for the first time. We’ll work together to design your custom artwork and select your digital collection. Once your museum-grade pieces are ready, they are hand-delivered directly to your door.

The Signature Storytelling Experience | $395 Creative Session Retainer
A full-service portrait experience designed for both newborn and family sessions. This experience is for those who value connection over perfection and museum-grade artwork created with intention.

Your creative session fee reserves your date and includes:
  • Custom Session Planning: A pre-session Zoom to plan your wardrobe, location, and vision.
  • The Portrait Session: A personalized family or newborn session (in-home or a DMV location).
  • The Reveal & Design Appointment: A guided session to view your images, design your custom, museum-grade artwork and order digital collections.

Your Total Investment: Please note that heirloom products and digital collections are not included in the creative session retainer fee. While there is no minimum requirement, most families invest between $1,500 and $3,500 on their custom artwork and digital collections during their Reveal appointment.

your investment

We are an artwork-first studio because we believe your legacy belongs on your walls or in print to be seen everyday. For every piece of physical artwork you purchase, we include the matching digital companion. However, if your heart is set on a digital-only collection, we do offer a digital-only option for families who prefer to manage their own printing.

Do you offer digital files?

About 1–2 weeks after your session, we’ll reach out to officially schedule your Reveal & Design appointment. The appointment itself typically takes place 2–3 weeks after your session, giving me the time to edit your gallery. We’ll sit down together (in-person or via Zoom) to view your portraits for the first time and curate the heirlooms that fit your home perfectly.

When do we get to see the images?

The retainer secures your date on our studio calendar and covers the custom planning of your session, our time together in the studio, and your Reveal & Design appointment. Please note that the retainer does not include any digital files or physical artwork. Because every family’s needs are different, all heirloom products and their matching digital companions are purchased separately, a-la-carte, during your Reveal session.

What does the $395 Creative Retainer cover?

We’ll handle all the styling details during our Zoom Planning Session. Because these sessions focus on authentic connection, we typically stick to a color palette to build everyone's outfits around.

What should we wear for our session?

Don't worry-we’ll get it! While my primary focus is on the love, joy, and connection that happens naturally, I always make sure to capture a few classic portraits where everyone is smiling at the camera. It’s the perfect balance of heart-led art and a traditional family legacy.

What if we want that 'one good shot' of everyone looking?

Family & Newborn FAQs

For our 'First Chapter' (Newborn) sessions, we work exclusively in the comfort of your home to provide the best in-home lifestyle newborn photography experience in the DMV. For our 'Full Story' (Family) sessions, we utilize your front porch, backyard, or a favorite local spot for lifestyle family portraits in Southern Maryland up to Northern Virginia and the Greater Washington DC area.

Where do these sessions take place?

We move at their pace. For newborns, we leave plenty of time for feedings, diaper changes, and snuggles. For older children, I provide the gentle direction needed to keep the session productive while leaving room for them to be themselves.

How do we handle the kids (or the baby) during the session?

Always. We believe that family portraits are about documenting your entire legacy, which is why grandparents are always welcome and encouraged to join both our Newborn and Family sessions. There is nothing more powerful than capturing the connection across generations.

Can we include grandparents in our session?
