I’m Angela, and I believe that every child deserves to be seen for exactly who they are—not just how well they can sit still for a camera. My work is a tribute to my late father, Joseph Vaughns;  he was a photographer himself, and keeping "Vaughns" in our business name is my way of honoring his legacy and the craft he loved. It’s a daily reminder that photography isn't just about pictures—it’s about belonging, legacy, and the stories we leave behind.

In my Alexandria, VA studio, I specialize in capturing that "main character" magic of children through heart-led art. I don’t expect perfection, and I’m definitely not looking for a "say cheese" smile. Whether your child brings big energy or quiet wonder, I’m here to document their unapologetic spirit.

I believe that the most beautiful thing about a portrait isn't a forced smile or a perfectly tucked-in shirt—it’s your child’s authentic spirit. We’ve all been there: the stress of "matching" outfits and the pressure for kids to perform for a stranger. In my studio, we throw that out the window. My philosophy is simple: I meet your child exactly where they are. If they are shy, we take it slow. If they are wild, we embrace the chaos. I’m not just looking for a photo; I’m looking for the "main character" magic that makes them them.

While I’m behind the lens, my husband and partner, Ishmael, is the "organized calm" to my creative storm. After retiring from the military, he joined me and traded his combat boots for the high-stakes world of toddler logistics and client experience.

As our Studio Concierge, Ishmael ensures your journey from the first phone call to the final artwork delivery is seamless, and entirely stress-free. He handles the "adult stuff" so you can focus on the memories—and yes, he usually has a terrible dad joke ready if the mood needs lightening.

life beyond the lens

When we aren’t in the studio or at a school for picture day,  we’re leaning into the beautiful, busy rhythm of our own story. Married for 23 years and high school sweethearts, we’re currently in the trenches of homeschooling our daughter while cheering on our son in his own adventures.

Life at home is a lively mix of our three dogs and the time we spend at the barn with the horses. We also have a deep love for travel and look forward to our next cruise whenever we can get away to the open sea. For a little "organized calm" at home, I find my peace with a cup of tea and a good book, while Ishmael recharges with a challenging Lego build or his favorite video games. Above all, we love our family, and that deep-rooted connection is exactly what we bring to every legacy we help preserve.
